Our Little Corner of the World...

Hangin' out in the neighborhood...
According to our Wildlife Specialist (and Bear Whisperer), Steve Searles,
it's unusual to get a shot of deer laying down...

Hopefully, they weren't laying down long, because shortly after I took this shot....
look who was crashing the party...

Crappy photo...but it's the first time I've ever seen a bobcat
in person, up close and pretty personal!

I saw him crossing the street...ran and got my camera...
ran back...got the settings...and barely had time to click
as he crossed the driveway next door...
much less hold the camera steady!!!

One of my Favorite Flowers...

"'Tis my faith that every flower
Enjoys the air it breathes!"
William Wordsworth

This Iris is long gone...
the shot is one from my archives...
actually...
it's one of the first I took (and kept)
after I got my first dslr camera...

(With a little tweaking!)

Not suitable for children...

No...this is not a representation of the "Rape of the Sabine Women"...

It is however, the rape of a duck...

yep...you read that right...

According to Webvet on Wikepedia,
"...as many as one in three duck matings are rapes..."

Looking back over the photos on the memory card I have with me...
I found this one and remembered walking with Kelly to look at the Wisteria
in the park in Bishop.  Of course Kelly wanted to look at the ducks...
you might remember a recent photo of her doing just that...
and there it was...going on right there out in the open
and no duck police around.
It was brutal...
and I admit...a bit fascinating.
According to Wikepedia, the female in these cases often
get injured or even die (sound familiar?).
Now, you may think that this would result in a lot of unwanted pregnancies...
(do ducks actually get pregnant?)
but do not worry...somehow...
mama duck is able to "dispense" the "offending" sperm
and ends up with pregnancies that are 97% wanted.
(Now...how the heck do they know that???)

Now you can say you learned something new today!!!

Curses!!!

Drat!!!

Where the heck is my laptop cord???

Laptop is deader'n a doornail!!!

Have to go to a graduation.!!!  Ugh... Up at 6???  I must really love Mimi!!!

Check back later today... I'll stop by Radio Shack on the way back to the house!!!

:)

Update!   Graduation went smoothly... Except for the fact my camera was on the coffee table at home... Thank God for iPhones!!!
Now the dilemma... New, expensive power cord for a very old laptop that doesn't hold a charge any more... Or a dreadfully expensive new laptop???

Soaring...

ISO 200    24mm    f9.0    1/320

"For most gulls it was not flying that matters,
but eating.
For this gull, though,
it was not eating that mattered,
but flight."
Richard Bach

This was a quick shot...
the gulls took off above me...
I grabbed my camera and didn't stop to set it any differently than it was already set...
swung it up to my eye and clicked away!!!

No telephoto...so I did a bit of cropping...
