The Escape Artist...

No...It's not Houdini!!!

It's Sadie...
about an hour before the bobcat showed up in front of the house...
(she's an expert at getting past anyone who opens the door!)

It's hard to miss the pure joy
in her escape....

I can't help but think...there's a bit of method to her madness...

Every time she sneaks out...she rolls and rolls...
usually in the dirt...

Could it be that there's some instinct at play here...

Rolling and rolling in the dirt...
getting all that musty smell all over...
and even toning down the white in her coat....

Getting her prepared for her hunt...
so that she doesn't become the hunted???

On the Lighter Side...

"It is hard to be brave, when you're only a Very Small Animal."
Winnie the Pooh
(A.A. Milne)

Poor brave Winnie...is Kelly's new best friend...
although...I'm not so sure Winnie's happy with the arrangement!!!

Our Little Corner of the World...

As I mentioned in the last few blogs...
Our Little Corner of the World  (Mammoth Lakes and Bishop CA)...
went south of the border this past weekend to
build a house in a day...

The project was sponsored by the Mammoth Lakes Noon Rotary Club,
with participants from Mammoth Lakes Interact (Rotary club at the high school),
Bishop Interact and Bishop Rotary.

Did I mention that the Mammoth Lakes Rotary Interact kids actually chose to
build a house rather than attend the prom...
Now is that character building or what???

The Bishop kids may not have given up prom...
but they had fun getting into the act!!!

The whole motley crew...
and the family who received the new home...
(the three in center front, with the littlest in front, the older girl in pink and mom holding
the yellow pad)
and a couple of neighbor kids too!!!

A Special Flower to Brighten Your Day...

"How fair is a garden amid the trials and passions of existence."
Benjamin Disraeli

This beautiful flower stood outside one of the homes in the neighborhood
where we were this past weekend...building a house for a lovely
family of three.
The owners of this particular home opened their home to us
while we were building the new home next door....
for use of their "facilities"...
an unusual opportunity while participating in these builds
as there usually is not any running water.
In these communities, to have running water or electricity is a luxury.
The homes we build are simple structures, enough to provide shelter and security.
Please take time to visit the Corazon.org site to learn more about their programs.

Corazon=heart...and hope.

one of the primary benefits for the new home owners is to have a door with a lock and key...
so that their home is secure...

this is the neighbors home...graced with the beauty of the red flower....

Corazon = Heart...

If you guessed building a house in Tecate...

...with Mammoth Lakes Rotarians and Corazon...

You guessed right!!!

We're on our way home today...
tired and happy...
with full hearts...
grateful for the blessings we have...
and grateful for the opportunity to share our blessings
with those less fortunate.

Please check out the Corazon website
to see what a wonderful program it is!!!

Mammoth is Springing to Life!!!

Just a quiet moment to say hello to one of our neighbors...

A bit bedraggled at the end of winter...

antler buds starting to show...

I'm looking forward to seeing this young guy at the end of summer...

with a full rack, and a full belly...

(and lot's of girls following him around!)

He's awesome!!!

Our Little Corner of the World...

Hangin' out in the neighborhood...
According to our Wildlife Specialist (and Bear Whisperer), Steve Searles,
it's unusual to get a shot of deer laying down...

Hopefully, they weren't laying down long, because shortly after I took this shot....
look who was crashing the party...

Crappy photo...but it's the first time I've ever seen a bobcat
in person, up close and pretty personal!

I saw him crossing the street...ran and got my camera...
ran back...got the settings...and barely had time to click
as he crossed the driveway next door...
much less hold the camera steady!!!

One of my Favorite Flowers...

"'Tis my faith that every flower
Enjoys the air it breathes!"
William Wordsworth

This Iris is long gone...
the shot is one from my archives...
actually...
it's one of the first I took (and kept)
after I got my first dslr camera...

(With a little tweaking!)

It Takes a Village...

...to catch a fish...

This was opening day and fishing season was already in full swing...

(But I don't think they'll win any awards from Better Home and Gardens...)
