More Spring in the Eastern Sierras...

"The most precious gift we can offer others is our presence.
When mindfulness embraces those we love,
they will bloom like flowers."
Thic Nhat Hanh

WooHoo!!! It's the First Day of Fishing Season!!!

"Give a man a fish
and he will eat for a day...
Teach a man to fish
and he will sit in a boat
and drink beer all day...
Unknown

These guys had a great time fishing opening weekend last year...
at Silver Lake...

I'm not in town this weekend and am missing this year's opening day
photo ops...

Spring has Finally Sprung!!!

"No winter lasts forever; no spring skips its turn."
Hal Borland

Leave it to the beautiful gardens of the US Post office to spring forth
with gorgeous new blooms...

And thanks to Elizabeth Tenney for spearheading the effort
to beautify the premier social center of Mammoth Lakes!!!

Evidence of Spring...

"And the day came when the risk to remain tight in a bud
was more painful than the risk it took to blossom."
Anais Nin

There are signs of Spring cropping up all around...
There's actually grass turning green across the street...
There's also another storm brewing for this weekend...

Reflections of a good day....

Kelly saying good bye to the lake...
She was sad when I told her that after next weekend it
won't be very often that she can be off the leash playing in the water...
All those fish hooks might cause a problem...

(Ok...so this is a photo my beautiful granddaughter Kieley took
when she and her sister were up here last year...I didn't take my
camera down to the lake today)

A Surreal Sky...

"We all live under the same sky,
but we don't all have the same horizon."
Konrad Adenour

I thought this was an almost surreal horizon and sky...
maybe another Star Trek scene...

Maybe just another fabulous sky over Crowley Lake!!!

(Fishing season opens in another week...
won't see the lake again without a boat for quite awhile!!!)

"N" is for "Nice Day for a Swim!!!"

"N"

It was a NICE afternoon for a swim...

It all started yesterday morning...
Kelly woke up from her morning NAP to go with me to Pilates.
Since she couldn't go in with me, she chose to get back to her NAPPING.
When I got back to the car at NOON and told her we were going to June Lake,
she went a bit NUTS thinking "Lake!!!  Swimming!!!"
She was quite annoyed when I told her NO it was NOON and time for lunch...
Mama stopped and got a burger while Kelly NAPPED again...
When Mama got back to the car...Kelly NAGGED and NAGGED about
going for a walk and a swim at the Lake...
She was quite a NUISANCE and barked at me that it was tantamount to
NEGLECT to NOT take her.  She barked to remind me of my John Muir
quote from yesterday's blog and reminded me that she NEEDED to
get out in NATURE as per Muir's quote.
In order to avoid any further dog-NAGGING...I decided that a stroll along the
lake was just what I NEEDED too!!!

Soooo...we stopped at the Lake and like the true NATURIST that she is
Kelly plunged into the water in all her glory...
NOBODY else was on the beach so she was confident that she could
run and play and shake the water off to her heart's content...

She swam like a sea NYMPH.   Taking NOSEDIVES to retrieve the
soggy pinecone that I threw in the water for her to fetch.
She was like a NUTCASE obsessed with the pinecone.

But as she came out of the water and looked out on the lake that
she had been enjoying...she looked like the NOBLE beast that she is...

After a few more shakes, she came up to me and NUZZLED her wet
NOSE in my lap to thank me for a wonderful afternoon...

It was my pleasure Kelly-girl!!!

My Little Corner of the World...

"Keep close to Nature's heart...and break clear away, once in awhile,
and climb a mountain or spend a week in the woods.
Wash your spirit clean."
John Muir

Our winter didn't really show up until sometime in February...
Last week it snowed from late Tuesday night through Saturday...
We added a few inches...but then the sun came out on Sunday...
and the snow melt began again...

How Old Does a Building Need to be In Order to be Historic???

"There is nothing new in the world except the history you do not know."
Harry S. Truman

I don't know much about Bridgeport...but I sure like their buildings!!!

The Bodie Hotel....

The Final Frontier...

South Tufa's, Mono Lake, California

"Space, the final frontier.  These are the voyages of the Starship Enterprise.
Her five-year mission: to explore strange new worlds, to seek out new life
and new civilizations, to boldly go where no man has gone before."
Star Trek opening monologue

Every time I go to Mono Lake...I expect to see a character from Star Trek
walking about...

The Edge of the World...

"Beyond the edge of the world there's a space where emptiness and substance overlap,
where past and future form a continuous, endless loop.
And, hovering about, there are signs no one has ever read,
chords no one has ever heard."
Haruki Murakami, Kafka on the Shore

It's been snowing since Tuesday night...
windy, cold and wet snow...and Kelly needed a walk...
I decided to head down 395 to the edge of the snow...
We ended up at Crowley Lake,
but the edge of the snow was still over the ridge...

Round 'em up!!!

If I were Petrea over at Pasadena Daily Photo, and if today was Monday,
this would be my Zen Monday photo...

But I'm not...and I'm clueless...
what does one write about a sign like this???

And no, you won't find a restaurant if you pull off of 395 at Mill Creek Rd.

Another Part of My Little Corner of the World...

"The world is so empty if one thinks only of mountains, rivers, and cities;
but to know someone here and there who thinks and feels with us,
and though distant, is close to us in spirit-
this makes the earth for us an inhabited garden."
Johann Wolgang von Goethe

meeting so many of you in cyberspace
has been and continues to be a wonderful experience!!!

Not Quite Spring...

"A hush is over everything, Silent as women wait for love;
The world is waiting for spring."
Sara Teasdale

Some of us have to wait a bit longer than others...
for Spring!!!

There actually are leaf buds on this tree!!!

"L" is for...

...well you might think "L" is for Lake...

as in Lower Twin Lake...

...or  for picnicking on Lake Tenaya.

Or..."L" could be for the landmark Ahwahnee Hotel Dining room...

...or for Sacramento's landmark Capitol Building.

Or...perhaps you might remember the low lights of the Hyatt Regency
torch lighting ceremony.

But noooo....my choice for "L" is for Longboard Beer!!!

(consumed while watching the low light torch lighting ceremony
at the Hyatt Regency, Kauaii!!!)

Wait! I Thought Yosemite Was Closer to My World!

When you think of Ansel Adams...
I'll bet you think of all those magnificent shots
taken in my current part of the world, Yosemite Valley...

Well...Ansel Adams had another side too...
Showing in drkrm gallery
727 S. Spring St., Los Angeles
Through April 21...

Ansel Adams was commissioned by Fortune magazine as a photojournalist
on assignment to photograph Urban LA in 1940...
They selected several photos for publication and returned the rest
to Ansel Adams.

In the 60's, Ansel Adams found the photographs and decided to
donate them and the negatives to the Los Angeles Public Library...
At the time, he wrote in a letter that these were not his best
work and that if they were interested, fine...
if not, they should burn them.
He placed a value of $150 on the whole lot of them...
Each print in the gallery was on sale for $2500...
Go figure!!!

Now...these were printed directly from the original negatives...
none of the famous Ansel Adams darkroom manipulation...
They were wonderful!!!
If you're in LA between now and the 21st..
do go and see these...

For a far more fun tour of Ansel Adams LA...check out Altadena Hiker's post!!!
