If I remember correctly, there are 17 State Forest Rangers who live there 24/7 during the Spring, Summer, Fall...at least at the height of summer, it tapers off during their shoulder seasons...During the winter, 3 Rangers live there 24/7...and get this...the road is not plowed at all so there only way to get in or out is by snow mobile or cross country!!! The park literature says that the park is preserved in a state of "arrested decay". The biggest threat, other than tourists, is prairie fire...they have water hoses placed sporadically throughout the park, well disguised...and all the rangers are trained to handle the equipment until help arrives...I must say, the state of California has done an awesome job in protecting this park...let's hope it stays in the budget!!!
I just love that all the little details at Bodie remain untouched. That place must be well guarded. I know it's well loved.
