Query in Black and White...

"There are always two people in every picture: the photographer and the viewer."

  1. Love the tree against the snow ripples.

  2. I am drawn by the patch of brightness in the centre of the snowfield.

  3. Thank you Dragonstar! The snow was so pristine in this spot...nothing marring it's surface, just the "snow ripples"!

I agree Linda! When I first saw this pic, I went right by it...then it grew on my...and when I played with the color to make it B&W, the bright area really drew me in!!! Thanks for commenting!!!

  4. I can't deconstruct this. It all works together for me. For example, I love the light patch, but it wouldn't be so compelling if I wasn't peering at it from behind the dark, scratchy branches.

  5. That's pretty much exactly what drew me to take the photo Petrea! That bright area drew me in...but the dark tree kept me there!!!

  6. It feels like a giant wave of moving snow, more like a swell than a crashing wave... just beautiful!

  7. well, let's try this again

    beautiful shot

reminds me of XC skiing +20 years ago in a bowl on Mammoth Mtn on a sunny but really cold day. Made for icy skittering down the road later in the shade, but the sunny bowl made for some lovely telemarking in the deep powder.

  8. Ohhh Genie!!! I like that description!!! Thank you!

Sounds like a wonderful memory of XC skiing Trish!!! One of the things that I loved about this spot was that it was so pristine..no tracks!!! In and around town, spots like this would be interlaced with tracks of all sorts!!!

  11. ditto Genie's idea!

when I was XC up there +20yrs ago, we made the tracks, not following others...oh how things change in a few decades! hard to find pristine areas like that anymore.

lol...wv: ditico...didn't even see this before I made the above comment!

  12. Beautiful picture of a beautiful environment. I often find myself similarly placed in St Kilda http://stkildatoday.blogspot.com albeit on an urban beach; extraordinary peace but no one else there - at work or having fun elsewhere I suppose
