It's a Parade!!!

Diego...hands down...the star of the parade...

Kelly...proud surrogate mom of Diego...

Getting into position...

Definitely a hot entry!!!

We were part of the Corvette brigade...
nope, this isn't the one we were in!

Kelly sat in the well in front of me...Diego on driver Joanne's lap...
and Olympian  Robyn Morning on the bac...

A parade's eye view!!!

Yep...you guessed it...the Trojan Horse comes to Mammoth!!!

After some of the budget cuts, the fire department had to downsize...

Everyone who's anyone was in the parade...if not...they were
watching!!!

What's better after a parade than a free concert in the park???

Everybody got into the spirit of the day...

Even Kelly!!!

Kelly really stepped into her surrogate mom role today...
after the concert in the park, Kelly and Diego approached a couple
of GoldenDoodles...they became aggressive and charged Kelly and Diego...
Diego scooted back to Kelly and positioned himself under her belly...
Kelly simply stood there and said "Really???  You're going
to go after my kid here???"
The Golden Doodles backed off and all was well.
Sorry to say there were no pics...it all happened too fast!!!

After a day of helping TheChief with a project around the house,
murder and mayhem erupt...

Our friends, Ramona and Pat, came up from Long Beach to help TheChief
with a project...
all survived and the project was successful!!!

Amazing Views...

"May your trails be crooked, winding, lonesome, dangerous,
leading to the most amazing view.
May your mountains rise into and above the clouds."

My first time...

...being a docent at Mono Lake!!!

Today was my first day as an official Mono Lake Volunteer...

I answered questions, chatted with the tourists, took photos...

...and swatted flies!!!

Yep, those brown things in the water are swarms of alkali flies!
They ring the lake, provide food for the gulls, eat algae from the lake, eat brine shrimp,
and annoy the heck out of me!!!

Query:
How would you describe the word alkali to a foreign tourist???

Our Little Corner of the World...

Well...training is over...it's official...I'm a Mono Lake Volunteer!!!
Our last training included our graduation ceremony...
complete with Pomp and Circumstance!!!
Yep...we walked to Pomp and Circumstance, got "vested" by the state ranger
and "papered" by the forest ranger!!!
A champagne toast, a few pics (the only day I didn't take my camera) and lot's of
good food to nibble on...
....and a private screening of the 1952, Fred McMurray classic
Fair Wind to Java
(the first 10 minutes were filmed in Mono Lake!)

Living in a Majestic World...

"The air we breathe, the water we drink, and the land we inhabit
are not only critical elements in the quality of life we enjoy-
they are a reflection of the majesty of our Creator."
