Kelly and I happened on the Mono Lake Cemetery when we were taking our drive

through Lee Vining and down the road to Benton.  

We got out and took a bit of a walk around the grounds...

It's a bit rustic...with a charm all it's own...

Kelly had a great day today...we walked almost to the end of Convict Lake...

she stopped periodically to run down to the water and take a swim.

When we stopped, we were in this nice little spot close to the water where 

she played and played and played!!!

Kelly, TheChief, and I took a drive down the road to Benton from Mono Lake again

last night...at the "Golden Hour".

While the lighting was not dramatically different from when I took the drive earlier,

the shadow play on the hills drew my eye...

Much of the drive is a stark landscape with scrub brush and undulating hills.

Stark and beautiful at the same time.

I believe that there's a herd of wild Mustangs somewhere around here...

something I'm going to have to look into!!!

Update!!!  
I just found out the mustangs are farther north...across the Nevada border...
but I have some leads about a photographer who goes up there regularly...
I'm going to have to check it out!!!

Update to the Update!!!
I guess it takes a horsewoman to know...
I just found out there is a herd in this area...
Hopefully, I'm going to head out in search soon...
before they head for the hills!!!

You may not know this...Mammoth Lakes is actually located in the midst of a volcanic caldera.

We are located on the edge of the Long Valley Caldera,

active even 100,000 years ago.

Mammoth Mountain is actually a "composite volcano"...

which basically means it has a bunch of different types of rock that make it up...

and is one of the last areas of the Long Valley caldera to "evolve".

This photo however, is not Mammoth Mountain...

it is on the road to Benton from Lee Vining off Highway 395...

So it's actually considered the Mono Craters...

which is the youngest by far in the area...

yeah...the youngest feature of the area at only 600 years old!

I thought I'd missed it!!!

Jacaranda season is an especially beautiful part of spring in Glendale...

and South Pasadena!!!

The median in our street is lined with Jacarandas...

they bloom later than the South Pasadena ones which were already at the end of their bloom...

but we managed to land in Glendale right smack in the middle of Jacaranda season!!!

I'm so glad I didn't miss it!!!
