Mystery in Black and White...

"A tree is an incomprehensible mystery."
Jim Woodring

While browsing through the participants of Skywatch Friday, I
discovered a fabulous photo by Nature Footstep Photography
and it occurred to me to play with some of my tree photos...
I was particularly interested in darkening the sky to black...
with the branches in high contrast...

What do you think???

  1. Very nice! Except right now here that tree would be reality--frozen solid! ;<)

  2. it almost looks like a negative. I like the effect you accomplished.

If the trees would had been a bit darker you would have an almost spoky photo. An owl on one branch? :):)

You can play around a lot. But I like it as it is.
Oh, almost forgot, thanks for linking. :)

  3. Awesome! I love the X-ray type effect. At first I actually thought it was a tree with snow or a lit up tree at night ;D

  4. I like what it does to the trunk, the shadows and curves.

  6. This works very nicely with the high contrast - the bare limbs against the black sky. Something of a Hitchcock feel to it!

  10. Thanks James!!! The tree in natural color was interesting, but not as defined as here...this processing brought out the more of the texture of the bark and shape of the tree limbs...Besides...it was just plain fun playing around with it!!!
