Our Little Corner of the World...Expanded!!!

"There is no easy walk to freedom anywhere,
and many of us will have to pass through the valley of the shadow of death
again and again
before we reach the mountaintop of our desires."
Nelson Mandela

OK...so if you're looking at the Valley floor at the bottom of the pic,
you are seeing BadWater...the lowest altitude in the contiguous United States at
282 feet below sea level.
If you look across the valley to the mountain range...and squint...
you can see Mt. Whitney...
the highest point in the contiguous United States!!!
Pretty awesome, eh???
Dante's Vista...
Death Valley, CA
about 4 hours from Mammoth Lakes!!!

  3. A stunning view. The flatness of the valley is a pretty amazing contrast to the mountains.

  4. Death Valley is really a unique place...I was amazed too Woody, about seeing the below sea level, practically next to the highest point...Mt Whitney...Also...if you are in the valley floor the mountain range on the other side of the Sierras looks completely different...softer lines, light brown, no snow visible...

  7. I love Death Valley!
I spent a lot of time there when I was younger. It was one of my granny's favorite places. We did a lot of camping in and around there. Very nice photo Kathryn...
