Stormy Weather

"If you spend your whole life waiting for the storm,
you'll never enjoy the sunshine."
Morris West

Morris West was an Australian novelist and playwright...
His best known works were The Devil's Advocate and The Shoes of the Fisherman.
I remember seeing The Devil's Advocate...the one with Al Pacino
playing the Devil...
and I vaguely remember seeing The Shoes of the Fisherman
with Anthony Quinn...
Do you remember either of these???

It's a Wonderful World...

"I see trees of green...red roses too
I see 'em bloom...for me and for you
And I think to myself...what a wonderful world.

I see skies of blue...clouds of white
Bright blessed days...dark sacred nights
And I think to myself...what a wonderful world.

The colors of the rainbow...so pretty..in the sky
Are also on the faces...of people..going by
I see friends shaking hands...sayin'..how do you do
They're really sayin'...I love you."

This is the tail end of the beautiful sunset I posted last week.

Open Sesame!!!

"The angler forgets most of the fish he catches,
but he does not forget the streams and lakes in which they were caught."
Charles K. Fox

Just last week I tried to drive up to Rock Creek Lake, but the snow gate was still up.
This week, the snow gate was down and I headed up...
A few others beat me to it...

Quiet Contemplation...

"Art is contemplation.  It is the pleasure of the mind which searches
into nature and which there divines the spirit of which nature
herself is animated."
Auguste Rodin

Moments of quiet contemplation are rare in the city...

Every day here in the Eastern Sierras is a study
in quiet contemplation...

Still Frozen...

"The lake and the mountains have become my landscape,
my real world."
Georges Simenon

Here in my little corner of the world, flowers are blooming in town...
and the lakes above us are still frozen...
The road to the lakes basin just recently opened,
except for Horseshoe Lake...we walked up here from the barricade...
Kelly was happily distracted from the disappointment of the
frozen lake by her cool new friend, Codi!!!

In every nation, there are wounds to heal.
In every heart, there is the power to do it."

Don't Fence Me In!!!

"The wide world is all about you;
you can fence yourselves in,
but you cannot forever fence it out."
J.R.R. Tolkein

This wonderful old fence is on the way to Virginia Lakes just off the Hwy 395...
Didn't see any herds of cows...and I don't think this is for keeping the fishermen in or out either...
but sure looked like a good spot to take a photo!!!

A Provincial Sky???

"Nobody of any real culture, for instance, ever talks nowadays about the beauty of a sunset.
Sunsets are quite old fashioned.
To admire them is a distinct sign of provincialism of temperament.
Upon the other hand, they go on."
Oscar Wilde

I've always known I was an old fashioned girl...

There's still snow and iced lakes in the Eastern Sierras...
This is Virginia Lakes...almost 10,000 ft elevation...
about 2,000 feet higher than our house!!!

All that ice and snow didn't keep Kelly out of the creek!!!

My Little Corner of the World Again...

"The world is a country which nobody ever yet knew by description;
one must travel through one's self to be acquainted with it."
Lord Phillip Dormer Stanhope Chesterfield

I travelled from my front door to the street for this one...
Just sayin'....
