What a difference a few years can make...
The winter of 2010-11 was an epic winter...
60 feet of snow on the mountain...
snow up to the middle of our second story window...
it snowed on Memorial Day Weekend...
Skiing was open through July 4th...and only stopped because insurance wouldn't let
the mountain stay open...
This year...yep...another epic California drought year...
The silver lining???
An early mountain Spring!!!

That's an interesting name for a lake.
ReplyDeleteThere's a story to the name...actually...a history to it!!! 19 prisoners escaped from a prison in Nevada in 1871. About half of them made it to the Eastern Sierras...but not without the law in pursuit. There was a shoot out at the lake, where the posse was killed...the convicts escaped again but were caught in Round Valley and eventually hanged. The name of the lake was changed to commemorate the shootout. One of the mountains towering over the lake was named Mount Morrison, after Robert Morrison, a local merchant and posse member who lost his life in the shoot out.
DeleteIt looks beautiful….but enough of all the white! Have a glorious spring!
ReplyDeleteMy sentiments exactly!!!
Delete...drought...that's hard to take. But, my goodness...60 feet of snow? Wow.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful images.
Wow - such a difference!
ReplyDeleteQuite a contrast!
ReplyDeleteI'm aching to climb those mountain slopes...
What a difference. And don't you hate that 'the insurance wouldn't let the mountain stay open.' Whaaaat?
ReplyDeleteToo much liability...skiing in the middle of summer!!!

ReplyDeleteI am having to start over...I got mixed up. It happens :). What I wanted to say is that many of your recent shots have shown quite a bit of snow but I can see from this comparison there is a real difference. Love both shots!
ReplyDeleteWe still have snow LOL...as a matter of fact, it snowed last night. When I took off this afternoon I had to brush about two inches of beautiful, powdery snow off the car...but none on the roads, and just enough to freshen up the white patches...
DeleteOhhh you've captured the lake so perfectly! Such a gorgeous area, the drought is hitting us hard. Hoping we can balance out some soon.
ReplyDeleteFantastic!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful and dramatic landscape.
ReplyDeleteThanks all!!!
ReplyDeleteI just want to mention the "purple mountains majesties."
