Salt of the Earth...

"Live in the sunshine, swim the sea, drink the wild air."
Ralph Waldo Emerson

It sounded like the folks swimming were from the Netherlands...
all I know is their skin is probably still soaking up the lotion!!!

Mono Lake is more than 2  1/2 times saltier than the ocean!!!

  7. I never knew it was that salty either. I just had now to google and see how salty the Dead Sea is and here's what I found:

The Dead Sea is 33.7 % Salinity - The oceans average 3.5% salinity. So the Dead Sea is Roughly 10 times a salty as the Oceans.

  8. Bibi...A lot of people who visit Mono Lake have been to the Dead Sea and swum in it...lot's of questions about swimming in Mono, but only these swimmers that I've seen!!! From what I understand, swimming in Mono is like swimming in Salt Lake...heavier water, a bit of a slimey consistency, you float easily but swim slower, and when you come out, you're covered with salt dust and quite dry skin!!! Not my cup of tea!!!

  11. Salty? We can all float?

I like the silhouettes against the sun-reflected lake. Lovely photo, and wonderful Emerson quote.
