Hopeful Bloom...

"Where flowers bloom so does hope."
Lady Bird Johnson

Do you know how LadyBird got her name?
At birth she was named Claudia Alta Taylor...
but when she was just a baby, her nurse, Alice Tittle,
merely made the comment that she was "purty as a little ladybird".
The nick name virtually became her name...
even on her marriage license her first name was listed as "Bird".

This is a Rhododendrum bud...in Oregon...
there've actually been a few days where it's been colder in Eugene than up here!!!

  1. Thanks for taking this great pic of my little bud! It will turn into a majestic magenta Rhodie in a few months. Amazing thing about rhodies - they can survive freezing weather which we have had too much of lately in Elmira. I think I need to change my FB pic from throwing snowballs to my rhodie bud!

  2. I thought that looked like rhodie! Nice shot of the bud. They grow wild in the forests here and bloom into frilly pink blossoms in June. Yeah, we got some cold weather all over in Oregon back in early December.

    1. Well you got me to wondering...so...thanks be to the internet...I found out that LadyBird had a great interest in conservation and beautification. In particular, she was behind the scenes support for the "Beautification Act of 1965". Apparently this became her focus while Lyndon was Vice President and President, and throughout the rest of her life.
