Sun setting on the western edge of Death Valley, California |
"Only if you have been in the deepest valley,
can you ever know how magnificent it is to be on the highest mountain."
Richard M. Nixon
I think Death Valley counts as the deepest valley...
and while Mammoth Mountain isn't the highest mountain...it's darned close!!!

Exquisite, Kathryn; love it.
ReplyDeleteThe photo represents an oxymoron from my perspective. The clouds look like snow clouds (which they are not), but that juxtaposed against the palms is, well, awesome!
ReplyDeleteIf you want a rational translation for my previous sentence, I need to see some SPRING.
I know what you mean Woody...although those could have been snow clouds...they're hovering over the Eastern Sierra side of the Valley!
Deletekjempe bra bilde Kathryn :-)
ReplyDeleteTakk Dirk!!!
DeleteThat's a magnificent shot!
ReplyDeleteOh, good one!
ReplyDeleteThanks all!!! Sometimes I'm completely surprised by shots that I think didn't come out when I get them on the computer!!! That's why I don't delete until it gets to the computer!!!
ReplyDeleteStunning silhouettes and lighting.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful. I would love to come back to Death Valley someday. So many places ....
ReplyDeleteMust say I never thought I'd read an inspiring quote by the author of this one. But it is.
I think maybe, he was referring to personal experience!!! Thanks for visiting Sallie!!!
DeleteThe photo is so textured that the sky looks like cloth. Lovely.
ReplyDeleteI shot this on a high ISO and opened up the exposure in LR...which is why it came out grainy...and I agree...it gave the photo a texture that I really like. I actually thought it was a dud photo until I played with it! But I really liked the composition that I could barely see in the out of the camera shot...so tweak away I did!!!
DeleteA gorgeous sky and a lovely scene. Have a happy weekend!
ReplyDeleteVery nice! Just a touch of color!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fabulous shot and I like the quote as well. Bon weekend.
