It is Dragonstar! The interior was incredible...gold leaf everywhere....unfortunately, they didn't allow any photography inside so I had to rely on purchasing a postcard...it was unbelievable...
Churches are some of the most beautiful architecture in the world--this from a non-religious person. I love them, though, love poking around in them. They're full of mystery and wonder.
I agree Petrea...and Catholic Cathedrals tend to lead the way with the extraordinary beauty...what always amazes me is that so many of these cathedrals took hundreds of years to build...I believe this one took over 150 years...can you imagine never seeing the finished product if you were the original architect/builder?
That's why these buildings so intrigue me. What's today's equivalent, if anything? People in old times put all their hopes, dreams, talent and wealth into churches. I think we're more cynical today and that's probably okay. It's because we know better. But the art that came out of those strongly-held beliefs--those fears, really--is magnificent.
Incredible architecture.
