  2. Indeed it is all in the details. I like it very much. There is immense 'pride' in old machinery.

    What is/was 'bodie'?

  4. Kathy, I'll let you tell Julie what Bodie is if you'll tell me what this piece of machinery is. Nice photo.

  5. Thank you Dragonstar!

Bodie is a State Historical Park...a ghost town from the California Gold Rush days...at one time, Bodie was one of the biggest cities in California. It was a wild west town, lot's of murders, crime, gambling, prostitution etc...quite an interesting place...

Thanks Woody!!! Glad you're back for another visit!

Well Petrea...it's a valve inside the stamp mill at the mine. Can't tell you what it's for 'cause while everyone else was listening to the guide...I was skirting the edges of the group taking pics!!!

  6. Who can walk by a valve without photographing it? Not me.

  7. Julie, you'd love the place. Much of it is just as the people left it when they deserted the town. There's an old schoolhouse, an undertaker, barns, houses, a store...you and your camera would love it.

California has a few of these places and Bodie is one of the best preserved. You could probably google some good pictures, and Kathy has quite a few here.

  8. Thanks Petrea! Unfortunately, due to the economic situation in California, our state parks are in jeopardy...this is one that could lose it's funding...

  12. Wonderful detail, indeed! Before I read the other comments, I clicked on Bodie in your "label line" and found the answer for myself. All I can say is WOW -- You have some fabulous shots there of wood, wheels, self-portraits, reflections, and shadows of a ghost! Love them all!

    Genie
