I'm curious about that too Petrea! Bridgeport is a destination point for the avid fisherman and also close to Yosemite, Bodie, etc...so it could be anything from rugged to quite comfortable...
Sooo...I just checked the website and it actually looks quite charming!!!
A lot of old motels and businesses used to name themselves to whatever close attraction. They hoped to attract any potential travelers by using the well known name. Bridgeport Hotel wouldn't always draw people. But Bodie! People KNOW Bodie!
Then again, dead town Hotel...humnnn. Reminds me of some translations I've seen that miss the mark but oooh, justthatmuch! Ala trying to sell the Chevy "No-va" in Mexico.
Ridgecrest is a much more recent incarnation...I think it sprang up around the 50's when China Lake actually was a lake and a naval base was placed there... Bridgeport has been around for a much longer time and is also the county seat of Mono County...but if you blink when driving the 395 through there you might miss it!!!
Super photo! Hubby & I went to Bridgeport last summer...not the best time of the year to visit -humid and full of mosquitos. I did like the old buildings though.
That's rather fun! Also a fine photo.
ReplyDeleteThank you Dragonstar!!!
ReplyDeleteIt looks like it might be an adventure to stay there. I wonder what the reality is.

Yeah...don't think I'd be drawn to the dead town hotel either Trish!!! But the Bodie Hotel does look like a charming spot!!!
ReplyDeleteI almost expected a horse instead of the car. :)
ReplyDeleteIf not a horse, at least a vintage truck!!! Thanks for visiting NatureFootstep!!
ReplyDeleteThat's a pretty neat building. The sign really sets the mood, great for monochrome.
ReplyDeleteCan we all say together now, "CHARMING"! And about that snow you just had. That's just not right!

Thanks Woody!!! Bridgeport is a cool old town!!!
ReplyDeleteAhhh Virginia!!! California does have some charming old towns...not quite Paris...but definitely charming!!!
This is another one of your shots that could be from almost any decade (except for the truck, of course.)
ReplyDeleteAnd even the truck has seen a decade or two!!!
ReplyDeleteSo good in B&W!
ReplyDeleteHave a nice evening!
I've been to Ridgecrest, but under the most dreary of circumstances; car trouble
ReplyDeletethank you HansHB!!!
ReplyDeleteOh PA...I've never been to Ridgecrest...too desolate and uninteresting from what I hear...but Bridgeport is another story!!!
What a great shot of the old hotel! Love the B & W too, Laura
ReplyDeleteThanks Laura!!! Glad you stopped by to visit and comment!!!
