A Treasure Found...

"Nobody sees a flower really; it is so small.
We haven't time, and to see takes time -
like to have a friend takes time."
Georgia O'Keefe

I saw these flowers out of the corner of my eye while the granddaughters
and I were watching two squirrels in the lawn of the Ahwahnee Hotel.
They were large bushes, with these delicate, somewhat small flowers...
What treasures we find when we allow ourselves to see beyond the obvious...

  1. How pretty, I wonder if it's in the michelia family.

(Major envy, here. I've always wanted to stay at that hotel.)

  2. Hiker...I've never seen a flower like this before and don't have a clue what it is! The Ahwahnee is every bit as lovely as I've always heard...We have friends who have gone there and stayed during the winter for a chef's weekend...including cooking classes! They did tell me though that the main hotel rooms are not necessarily "en suite"...The hotel also has a Thanksgiving dinner that is generally booked a year in advance!

  3. I've eaten at the Ahwahnee, walked thru the common areas, but never stayed. Beautiful hotel in a beautiful place and a place I always take people if they have never been.

Glad you captured this gem. People often take pics of the obvious things, but do not always notice the little, out of the way things.

Many, many years ago, we took a drive on 17 mile drive. A man walked up to us and thanked me for taking a picture of the golf course, rather than just the beach. I explained there were deer littering the course--a beautiful sight and one needs to look at what is in front, as well as behind to find the true beauty of a place.

Glad you found some of that at the Ahwahnee!
