    There is a name for that formation, but it escapes me at the moment (pretty common these days). They are really cool.

    The clouds are what are called Lenticular clouds. Here in the Eastern Sierras, they're affectionately referred to as a Sierra Wave. We see this cloud formation up here fairly frequently!!!

    I have no idea what type of atmospheric conditions it takes to cause clouds like that, but it sure is beautiful. Fantastic photo Kathryn!
