Our Little Corner of the World...Expanded!!!

"I have always loved the desert.
One sits down on a desert sand dune, sees nothing, hears nothing.
Yet through the silence something throbs, and gleams..."
Antoine de Saint-Exupery

The Eastern side of the Sierras is a more rugged form of nature than the Western side.
If you've been to Yosemite, you know that it is lush with greenery...
on the Eastern side, the greenery is a bit sparser,
and as you make your way down the Sherwin grade,
the terrain turns from pine trees to high desert.
By the time you get to Bishop, you know you're in the desert...

At this point in our spring season...I'm craving warmth!
I've been heading down to Bishop...in search of...
well...

stay tuned through out this week and you'll see what my search has revealed!!!!

  4. Having lived in Arizona and California, I find this very inviting and very beautiful!

Although I've been to Yosemite, I've not been on the eastern slopes of the Sierras so I'll have to sit back and enjoy your photos!

  6. Been a long time since we've been in Bishop, but I can still see the area in my mind's eye. I am thinking of Mono Lake too...a place I dream of going back to some day.

  9. oh good - glad to see you biggafy. I think my friends ranch is up from here. Past the green alfalfa fields on the right. I was looking out on that alluvial plane headed into the White Mountain range from her home and noticed a small green oasis near the mountain's edge. She said it was in the family of the Shautz(sp?) - owners of the famous Bishop dutch bakery. Their property was gotten years before the BLM took possession of surrounding land (and why it's not developed)

  12. Thanks Emily! I tried to check where you're from...but I'm not at all sure about how Google + works!!!

    Thanks Laura!!!

The green alfalfa fields are close by PA!! The Schatt's family owns the Bishop bakery...I wouldn't be surprised if they own a fair chunk of land around there...I think LADWP is the culprit that has most of the land...which TheChief likes to say is the reason the valley is built up like the central valley!!! A silver lining to water wars!!!

    Thank you Adele!!!
