The Forecast is Snow...

Vista of Crowley Lake from the lake's dam

Is it a Jinx???

We had several early snow storms in October...

and many of us up here weren't quite ready for winter to set in...
sooooo....
did we jinx it when we said winter's coming too early???

No...this isn't last year's photo...

About 10:30am Wed...

Our first driveway plow of the year!!!

It's supposed to get warm and sunny this weekend and next week...

Tioga Pass is open!!!

Tioga Pass opened last weekend for the first time this year!  This is the gateway to Yosemite
National Park, if you happen to be on the Eastern Sierra side...
The snow was still anywhere from 6-10 feet deep on the side of the road in places...
This was taken on Friday close to the gate to Yosemite...

The snow melt is fabulous for waterfalls and LADWP!!!

(PS...they're predicting snow up here on Wednesday!!!)

In case you were wondering...

...just how much snow we had this year...

I took these on Wednesday (yep..June 15) at Lake Mamie...
With well over 600 inches of snow over the season....
is it any surprise we still have all this white stuff?

Now...to alleviate the suspense...
please meet Kelly...the newest addition to our furry family!!!!

She's 15 mos old, and came to us from Forever Friends Golden Retriever Rescue...
We managed to find a rescue that saw past the lack of 6 foot fences and figured out a way to
have a home inspection with out being in the same area!!!

Thank you FFGRR!!!

Kelly and I went driving around yesterday, checking out her new town...
She particularly liked the snow up by Lake George!!!

She chewed it...

She chased flying snowballs that disappeared when they hit the ground...

She shook it...

She chased it...

She ate it...

She shook it some more...

She romped in it...

And then she collapsed!!!

She's settling in nicely...

except...remember that contented kitty from Tuesday???

She's a bit huffy today because she's got Kelly scared to be in the same room with her!!!

Things have settled a bit...but Kelly has learned just how formidable
a middle aged, clawless cat can still be!!!

It's been snowing off and on since last Wednesday...
I keep seeing posts of Spring flowers and sunshine in my blogging excursions...
But ya know what?  It's ok!!!  I'm still liking the snow!!!
Ask me again next week...

100 Words for Snow...

It appears that there seems to be a dispute among linguists and/or academics in regards to the claim that Eskimos have over 100 words for snow...

Well...I'm here to tell you...after living here in Mammoth this snow season...I've discovered that there are very definitely different kinds of snow...

Sometimes it's flaky and soft, sometimes it's wet and slushy, sometimes it's like little tiny pellets, (sometimes it's yellow...)  and sometimes...it's all squiggly like this!!!

And not from XC skiing or from snowmobiling...it's a single track doing loop de loops...
Any ideas as to what it was???

Back Again!!!

Guests up here last week and a short trip down to the Central
Coast to visit some other friends put a dent in my daily blogging...
Darn!!!  This daily blogging is hard to keep up with!!!
But, I have good news!!!  I may have fixed my camera!!!  I was having trouble with my shutter click and focal point...wouldn't you know, these darned computer driven cameras have a way to reset to default!!!  Hopefully, that will be the end of my shutter issues...

In the meantime...these are a few photos taken with my droid phone from the plane when I was returning from Oregon...
A breathtaking landing, if ever I saw one!!!

A Time to Reflect...

New Year's Eve is a time to reflect on the past year...
To look at the past year with clear vision...and while not ignoring the failures and disappointments, truly focusing on that which we are grateful for...
Remembering our accomplishments...but most importantly... remembering and focusing on our many blessings.

Thank you all for joining me on my journey in God's country this past year.
You are all a part of my greatest blessings!!!

Happy New Year!!!

The Most Snow in North America

Yep!!!  According to Mammoth Mountain, and several news sources, the Eastern Sierras accumulated the most snow in North America during the last storm...

Well far be it from me to neglect this story!!!

Keep in mind, the snow has already settled about a foot or two...
Up to the second story!!!

It Certainly is a White Christmas!!!

It's "W" for ABC Wednesday!

"Like snowflakes, my Christmas memories gather and dance-
each beautiful, unique and too soon gone."
                                                                                                     Deborah Whipp

My very favorite Christmas Carol is the Irving Berlin song, White Christmas...
especially as sung by Bing Crosby and Marjorie Reynolds in The Holiday Inn!

And yes, Mr. Earl, that's the deck!! About 1 foot short of the height of the storm at 6 feet deep!!!)

It's a MAMMOTH Winter!!!

Dan read on the internet that Mammoth Mountain has the most snow in North America today!!!
Yep!!!
(posted on Facebook by the good folks of Mammoth Mountain)

This was yesterday!!!  Need I say that it snowed all night last night?  Today, Tom and the girls were planning on leaving in the early morning...
A lot of shoveling, and two police cars helping to pull him out of the driveway, and they were on their way!!!   They did stop for breakfast with us at our new version of Montrose's City Hall diner.  Did I mention that we got right out?!!!

(In all fairness, the fine fellows from MMLPD did help direct the Hubman aka the Chief through the big berm at the bottom of the driveway!)
(BTW is it police protocol to giggle and laugh while assisting Mammoth's citizens? er Chief?...Ho,ho,ho!!!)

It's Been Snowing Again!!!

"There is nothing in the world more beautiful than the forest clothed to its very hollows in snow.
It is the still ecstasy of nature, wherein every spray, every blade of grass, every spire of reed, every intricacy of twig, is clad with radiance."

                                                                                                                 William Sharp
